EDLD 5389-Developing Effective Professional Leadership

Professional learning empowers educators to grow, innovate, and elevate their teaching practices. By embracing new strategies and actively collaborating with peers, teachers can design more engaging and effective learning experiences. But it’s time to move beyond traditional “sit and get” models and shift to “go and show” models. Let’s apply what we learn, share what works, and lead by example. Through this coursework we can put what we learn into action, share it with others, and lead by doing

I designed an alternative professional learning (PL) plan outline that supported my innovation plan and helped colleagues move from ideas to action while building significant, technology-enhanced, meaningful learning environments. Using the course readings, discussions, and research, I created an outline that identifies key components for my fully developed plan. My outline addresses how I incorporated the five key principles of effective PD, fostered collaboration, identified leaders and audience needs, selected my instructional design framework, and established a timeline and supporting resources. This plan is designed specifically for a need at my campus, and I made sure it is realistic, easy adjustable, and ready for you to use with your teachers. To transform professional learning, we must shift from passive training to active, personalized collaboration where educators engage in hands-on experiences and apply new strategies in real-world settings. By creating a realistic, flexible PL plan tailored to my campuses specific needs, I am able to empower teachers to implement change immediately and foster lasting growth on my campus.

This professional learning strategy uses backward design to align goals, activities, and assessments while empowering CTE teachers to co-create meaningful, industry-aligned projects. It incorporates the COVA model (Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authenticity) by giving teachers ownership of their learning, opportunities to choose focus areas, and authentic, hands-on experiences within collaborative PLCs. Through technology-enhanced, structured activities and ongoing reflection cycles, teachers apply new strategies in real classrooms, building confidence and fostering a culture of continuous, collaborative growth.

In response to the call to action to transform professional learning, I collaborated with peers to create an alternative professional learning plan outline focused on shifting from passive, compliance-driven training to active, technology-enhanced collaboration for CTE teachers. This plan outlines clear, practical steps to help educators apply new strategies in real-world settings through structured PLCs, ongoing support, and hands-on learning experiences. By working together through collaboration, I designed a PD model that is ready for implementation and aligned with our goal of fostering meaningful and lasting change in our district.
